Farrington, Keynote Speaker
Our
keynote speaker is Debra Farrington. Debra is the author of eight books
of Christian spirituality, including Hearing with the Heart: Discerning God's
Will for Your Life, on which her talks will be based. She leads retreats around
the country, and is an online instructor in Christian spirituality for two seminaries.
She also writes for a variety of magazines including The Lutheran, and is
a columnist for Lutheran Woman Today ("Let Us Pray" column).
Debra's
two keynote presentations will be "Hearing with the Heart: Discernment as
a Way of Life" and "Discerning God's Will at the Crossroads." She
will also lead a workshop entitled, "Spiritual Practices for Living a Discerning
Life."

Who
is invited?
Anyone from the I-K Synod who is trying to figure
out whether they are called to public ("rostered") ministry in the ELCA
or who is already moving down that road
and their spouses or fiancés,
too.
Why
should you participate?
This
annual retreat is a great time to:
-
become personally acquainted with the synod's candidacy committee in a relaxed
setting,
|
-
make new acquaintances and renew old ones among the inquirers, applicants, and
candidates of the synod,
|
-
receive important and helpful information about the candidacy process and ask
questions about that process,
|
- meet
and get to know the bishop of the synod, Jim Stuck, Assistant to the Bishop and
Director of Candidacy, Bill Gafkjen, and Region 6 Coordinator, Marilyn Smith,
|
|
|
- explore
various aspects of candidacy and ministry in the ELCA,
|
- participate
in breakout sessions around important and interesting candidacy-related topics,
|
- get
away from whatever routine usually shapes your days and into a beautiful, comfortable,
relaxing setting for a bit
|
