Called to Give Stewardship Program

Stewardship Core Values and
Key Insights

1. Generosity is a good thing.

We don't need to protect people from their generosity. In fact, it is unfaithful to do so.

2. Stewardship is ministry.

It is not just a "necessary evil" we go through because ministry, unfortunately, isn't free. It's about helping people say yes to their vocation.

3. God wants everything, not just 10%.

Stewardship is radically transforming, all encompassing and very intimate.

4. Sin is alive and well.

We know too much to take ourselves too seriously. We are curved in upon ourselves. Our best confessions question our rationalizations and justifications ... even our math.

5. You cannot preach the Gospel for very long without preaching about money.

Hope, forgiveness, redemption, joy, new life, and freedom from false gods, false hopes and false promises. It's the incarnation. It touches daily on our money and all that our money reflects.

6. Relationships are vital.

Without genuine relationships, stewardship easily looks like manipulation. We don't create our relationships, but we are called to be stewards of them.

7. Good stewardship is about good health.

Giving is like exercise; it's good for your heart. It also requires courage, discipline and sacrifice.

8. Stewardship Leadership is about more than being a good steward.

It's about coaching. It's about finding the skills to help others to give themselves away.

9. Where your treasure is, your heart will be also.

Stewardship is never just about money. But it's always about money. Helping people move their treasure is the way to help them grow their hearts.

10. Our giving is always a personal matter, but it is never a private one.

Our giving and spending reflect who we are and what we value. Our giving and spending affects everyone around us.

11. Both congregations and households need to be generous.

Vital households are generous households. Vital congregations are generous congregations. Vital leaders model the generosity they wish to grow.

12. Everything is a theological statement.

Any time you say anything about money in the Church, you are teaching stewardship.
