Indiana-Kentucky Synod
Multicultural Ministry:

An invitation from the Multicultural Ministry Committee
of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod:

ONE . . . HOLY . . . CATHOLIC . . . APOSTOLIC . . .

These words have shaped and defined the Church for centuries.
They are the words we proclaim weekly in our confession of faith.

The Church of Jesus Christ is one church, made up of those who are born of water, Word and Spirit, regardless of who their parents are.

The Church of Jesus Christ is holy, because it is his body and he is the head,
not because there is an absence of sin.

The Church of Jesus Christ is catholic, the ancient word for inclusive and
multi-cultural, as richly diverse and varied as this planet and its peoples.

The Church of Jesus Christ is apostolic, founded on his teachings and therefore historical, confessional, even liturgical, yet continually made new in the face of a new day, a new age, a new culture.

How can the Church of today reflect the Church of all ages? A Church - a synod, a congregation - that is rooted in the historical past of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that is living fully in its present time and place under the power of the Spirit, must have as its vision the future that God has planned for us all.

Imagine if you will, what the heavenly banquet table must look like. There you see people - men, women, and children - from every time and place. There are people from Appalachia and people from the Metropolis. There are rural farmers, urban factory workers, and suburban homeowners. There are people from every kingdom and nation on earth, people of every race and language, and yes, even people from every religious background.

The Multi-cultural Committee of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod is looking for individuals who dance with joy at that vision, whose hearts hope for that day, who are willing to find ways for our Synod, even now, in this time and place, to lift up that vision. We are looking for folks who long for the Church - and our Synod and our congregations - to be what it has been created, and shaped and nourished to be: one, holy, catholic, apostolic.

Read Acts 2.1-21, the story of Pentecost. Hear and see the vision of the kingdom of God for which Christ died and rose again. Pray about this vision and how we can reflect it in our Synod.

If there is yearning in you for this vision, contact Pr Rudy Mueller
(317-253-3522; or e-mail him at rmueller@iksynod.org).
