Remembrance for the Emanuel 9

Wednesday, June 17, 2020 – from 6 to 8 pm EST/5 to 7 pm CST via Zoom.

Five years ago, nine members at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church were killed by a white supremacist at a Bible study and prayer meeting. We will remember these martyrs of faith and other victims of racial injustice who have been oppressed and killed.

Please join us for a time of lament, remembrance, and commitment to work for change. Speakers will include Bishop William Gafkjen of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the ELCA, Conference Minister Chad Abbott of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference of the UCC, and guests with personal stories. Together, we will raise our voices in prayer, renew our commitments to action, and receive blessings for our ongoing work.

Though these words and histories may bring the discomfort of spiritual pain, this pain is also a necessary part of healing and reconciliation. We invite you to accept this pain, trusting God’s promise of new life.
