SUNDAY SCHOOL @ HOME – Resurrection of our Lord – Easter Sunday (April 4, 2021)

Bible Passage

Easter Sunday (Mark 16:1-8)

Christ is risen!  He is risen, indeed!  Alleluia!  Today is Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus rising from death to life.  Jesus died on the cross, but then through the power of God’s love Jesus rose from the dead.  Let’s watch this week’s video that tells the story of Easter beginning with the things that led up to Jesus’ death on the cross and then his rising from tomb…his rising from death to life!

Easter Sunday is the most important day of the year for Christians everywhere.  The story of Easter is found in all four of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the Bible.  It is so important because it is good news for us and for all people everywhere.  It means that Jesus is with us forever.  Death is not the end.  Even when our lives on earth end, we will live forever with Jesus in heaven.  We have so much to celebrate on Easter!  When the women went to the tomb, they expected that the big stone would still be covering the entrance to Jesus’ tomb, but – surprise – it had been rolled away and Jesus wasn’t there, he had risen!  He was alive!  He is alive!  The Easter season lasts 50 days and so our celebration is just getting started!

  • What’s been the biggest surprise you’ve ever had?
  • What would you do if you saw an angel?
  • Jesus wasn’t in the tomb.  Where was he?
  • Who can you celebrate the good news that Jesus is alive with today?

Make Resurrection Rolls.  They are super easy to make.  They are rolls with marshmallows baked inside, which become hollow as they bake.  They represent the tomb of Jesus on Easter morning, when you break them open as they are empty inside!  Follow the link below to find the recipe.

Tear pieces of paper and use them to make a cross.  If you don’t have construction paper, you can use white paper and color the pieces different colors using markers or crayons.

God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, who rose from the tomb on the first Easter.  We thank you that because Jesus rose from death to life we will live with you forever.  Help us celebrate today!  Amen.
