At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!” Luke 1:39-42 (New International Version)
Have you ever leapt for joy? Was there ever a moment so joyful that your very heart and soul leapt? The birth of my sons was such a moment. I was overwhelmed by the miracle and by the love I was given in my life. But I wonder, have I ever leapt with joy at the very thought of Jesus and all He has done for me?
When John the Baptist leapt in Elizabeth’s womb, he recognized the joy of salvation that was coming to the world through the life and death of Jesus, who was just a baby waiting to be born into this world to fulfill His father’s mission on earth. Let us leap for joy this glorious season and every day recognizing that Jesus will bring us joy, salvation, and grace. Welcome our Lord and Savior by leaping for joy!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, our precious Lord and Savior. May we leap for joy at
the very thought of Your love and the Son You gave us. Amen.
Wondering While Waiting: Tell about a time in your life when someone’s hospitality toward you meant a great deal.
