Masters of Disaster: On the Ground, Ready to Serve

Mobilizing volunteers to respond quickly to communities affected by unexpected disasters.

Who Is Masters of Disaster?

Masters of Disaster (MOD) is a faith-based, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing help and hope to individuals and families affected by unexpected disasters. MOD mobilizes trained teams to respond with compassion, skill, and practical support as communities begin the journey toward recovery.

Their work primarily serves communities within a four-hour drive of the Greater Cincinnati area, with additional deployments when needs arise.

How Volunteers Serve

Volunteers are central to Masters of Disaster’s mission. They work in teams that are trained to assist with all phases of disaster recovery — from immediate response tasks like debris removal to longer-term rebuilding projects.

Through our partnership with MOD, volunteers can:

  • Join structured work teams focused on disaster response and recovery
  • Participate in ongoing service projects and local “serve days”
  • Gain practical experience in organized volunteer response

All volunteer activities are coordinated through the organization to ensure safety, proper skills application, and real impact for survivors.

What Volunteer Work Teams Do

Volunteer teams may serve in a variety of roles, including:

  • Debris cleanup and property clearing
  • Chainsaw work and fallen tree removal
  • Roof tarping and weather protection
  • Flood remediation and drying of affected spaces
  • Repair and rebuilding projects
  • Emotional and spiritual care for disaster survivors

No prior disaster response experience is required — volunteers are trained and placed on teams based on interest, skills, and availability.

Training & Preparation

Before serving on a work team, volunteers receive training through Masters of Disaster. Training is designed to ensure safety, confidence, and effectiveness and may include:

  • Volunteer orientation and safety procedures
  • Team communication and coordination
  • Hands-on skill training for specific response roles
  • Ongoing local service opportunities that build experience

Regular training events and service days provide opportunities for volunteers to learn, grow, and stay engaged.

Getting started is straightforward:

Whether you’re available occasionally or want to be more regularly involved, there’s a place for you on a team.
