Randolph County Tornado Recovery
On March 14, 2024, a powerful tornado swept through Randolph County, Indiana, carving a long path of destruction across Winchester and into Ohio. Homes, businesses, and churches were severely damaged or destroyed, 38 people were injured, and dozens of families were displaced. The community responded immediately, with hospitals, first responders, volunteers, and local organizations mobilizing to provide emergency care and essential resources. The Randolph County Community Foundation, Indiana VOAD partners, local churches, and other relief organizations quickly coordinated efforts to meet urgent needs.
In partnership with Lutheran Disaster Response, we are providing $30,000 in Long-Term Recovery support to help 5 families repair and rebuild their homes. This funding covers critical construction materials and labor for households whose homes were destroyed or heavily damaged, including multigenerational families, elderly residents, and those facing health challenges. Many of these families were denied insurance or lacked other forms of assistance, making long-term recovery particularly difficult.
Through close collaboration with the Long-Term Recovery Group, Catholic Charities, ELCA partners, and local volunteers, this project ensures that resources are directed to the households with the greatest need. By addressing these unmet needs, our work goes beyond immediate repairs—helping families return safely to their homes, restoring stability, and strengthening the resilience of the entire community.
