Bible Passage
Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:4-25)
Today is the 19th Sunday after Pentecost. During Pentecost, we grow closer to God and closer to one another. There are 7 Sundays left in the season of Pentecost.
Our first reading for today is from the first book in the Bible, the book of Genesis. Genesis means “beginning.” The book of Genesis tells about the beginning of the earth and about the first people – Adam and Eve.
Watch today’s video and hear about the first people God created – Adam and Eve:
God created the whole world and then God created people who could help take care of it. The first people were Adam and Eve. God gave Adam and Eve an important job…to take care of all of the earth, the land and the sea, the plants and animals, everything that God had created.
Adam and Eve were happy to help take care of the earth because God had created such a beautiful place. Adam and Eve were amazed everywhere they looked. There were beautiful trees of all kinds. There were beautiful flowers in so many different colors. There were rivers and waterfalls. Adam and Eve loved the animals, too. There were so many different kinds of animals. There were birds and frogs, penguins and giraffes, monkeys and zebras, and so many others.
God asked Adam and Eve to give names to the different kinds of animals and to take care of them all. They named the animals with the long necks giraffes and the black and white birds that waddled when they walked penguins. Adam and Eve named all the animals and took good care of them. God was happy to see what a good job Adam and Eve were doing.
God asks us to take care of the earth, to take care of God’s creation, too. Things are different than when Adam and Eve lived, but we can care for the earth by not wasting water or electricity or food, by recycling, by reusing things rather than throwing everything away. This week talk with your family about how you can care for God’s creation.
Discuss
- What are you especially happy that God created?
- Why is it so important for us to take care of the world?
- How can you take care of the world?
