Inspiring Spirit/Empowering Spirit
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Psalm 51:10-12 (The Message)
I once walked in and through the world, believing that I could bring order to chaos. It was part of my job to alleviate all potential areas of disharmony within the organization. I failed. Each time I believed I could fix a problem, another would overtake it, and chaos would again ensue. Professional and personal isolation strained relationships and left me often feeling alone, exiled, and heartbroken. In the dark, I would cry out for help, for a fresh start, for a genesis so I could once again know the certainty of Christ’s hope, grace, peace, and love. In these gray days of the COVID exile, we pause in the stillness of the season and feel the Inspiring Spirit, the Empowering Spirit, breathe new life out of the chaos that overwhelms us.
Prayer:
Healer of broken spirits, breath into me all things new and cast away the chaos of my life.
Eternal grace, open me to know that you alone are holy; you alone are God.
Lord of eternity, shape my heart to trust you and away from my hubris.
Prince of Peace, do not forsake me, but guide me in your ways. Amen.
